Sometimes we get so caught up in the excitement of the holidays that we forget the importance of maintaining our furnaces until it is too late, and we’re stuck freezing on a cold January night. Below, we will suggest 4 different tips to help extend and lengthen the life of your furnace.
- Schedule a Check-Up– A check-up is often referred to as a tune-up or routine maintenance check. Be sure to select a reputable company that specializes in heating or HVAC– not just any home appliance company.
- Replace the Filter– Although it may seem like an insignificant and mundane task, replacing the furnace filter as soon as it is dirty can help increase air flow, allowing your system to not work as hard and reduce wear and tear on your system. Aim to replace your filters every 30-60 days, as necessary.
- Seal Air Leaks– An air leak in your HVAC line causes a furnace to wear out very quickly. Not sure if you have a leak? We can help.
- Duct Cleaning– Your heating ducts should be cleaned every 3-5 years to ensure contaminants aren’t entering your system. Just by existing in your home, dust is scattered about and often collected by your HVAC system. Having your ducts cleaned and inspected helps to reduce wear and tear on your furnace.
